I find it fascinating that even among the most literate bitcoiners, we still find people so ready to break the basic rules of Internet commerce and common sense: You don't just send your fiat money  or bitcoins to a casual acquaintance on the Internet!  In fact, the whole concept of Bitcoin is based on the elimination of TRUST on third parties or centralized structures for financial transactions. So, unless you are ready to lose a big chunk of money as this fellow bitcoiner did, please make sure you only deal with local and well established businesses, at least until the technology matures, and better safeguards are in place.
